Kiehl’s Launches Sleeping Mask, Is Predictably Awesome

In case you needed further proof that sleeping masks are the next big thing in beauty imports from Asia, may we present to you Exhibit A: Kiehl's is launching their very own version as we speak. Part of its iconic Ultra Facial collection, this intensive moisturizing treatment uses the drought-resistant fountain plant to help boost your skin's ability to absorb and hold moisture.
For those of you new to the sleeping-mask trend, let us catch you up. Sleeping masks are an import from Korea (like all wonderful beauty things, we've learned). They are super-potent creams that work while you sleep — when your skin is in its optimum repair mode — to hydrate and replenish your complexion.

You apply a sleeping mask on your skin as you would a normal mask. (That is, don't rub it in.) Put a thick layer on your skin and wait about 10 minutes. After that, gently tissue off the excess, leaving behind a thin film. The temptation to wipe every last speck of it off will be great, but resist. You need to leave a little bit on so it can work overnight. Head to bed and the remainder of the mask will sink into your skin overnight (promise). When you wake up, your face will feel dewy soft and look plump and fresh.
If you are familiar with sleeping masks, the texture of this may feel a bit odd, as it's more like a serum jelly than a thick cream. We personally like the less-greasy feel — it's refreshing and feels hydrating rather than super greasy.
Between subzero temps, bone-chilling winds (thanks, Polar Vortex), and all that dry indoor heat, our skin definitely needs all the help it can get staying hydrated this time of year. Plus, we're psyched to see a storied brand like Kiehl's bring their centuries of beauty knowledge to this trendy new beauty craze. We'll be adding this one to our nighttime beauty regimen ASAP.
Kiehl's Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque, $35, available at Kiehl's.
