Maybe it's because Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir come hang out in our office (NBD), but we like to think we know a thing or two about figure skating. So, trust us — we (and you!) haven't seen anything like the frozen force that is 15-year-old Yulia Lipnitskaya. Prepare to have your minds blown, people.
As you can see from the above clip, the Russian teen just about skated away with the gold medal after her jaw-dropping performance during the women's figure-skating short program Saturday at the Winter Olympics. Busting out more spins than a roulette wheel, Lipnitskaya drew a standing ovation with her dizzying display of flexibility, form, and balance. Seriously, we feel a tad motion sick just watching her.
We're, of course, rooting for Team USA, but Lipnitskaya has certainly earned herself some new hardware with this incredible routine. In the words of ice-skating pro Elvis Stojko, the girl "killed it." We're anxious to see her next performance in the long program, even if we are a bit perplexed by her reported song choice: the theme from Schindler's List, in which she portrays the little girl in the red coat. Oh, boy. It could be a tear-jerking tribute, or it could be four minutes of excruciating awkwardness. But, that's what the Olympics is all about. (Policy Mic)
