While the beauty at tonight's Academy Awards wasn't exactly the most daring we've ever seen, the hair and makeup looks were the kind that definitely deserved double takes. The women of the Oscars were all rocking a super-subtle, down-played sort of glamour, with mostly neutral makeup and occasional pops of bright color (or, if you're Cate Blanchett, neutral makeup combined with the longest lashes in town).

As for the hair, think soft, tousled, touchable, and, dare we say — effortless. Of course, there was a lot of effort and hard work, both professional and personal, that went into the creation of these stunners. But, between Emma Watson's beachy ponytail and Olivia Wilde's sultry cat-eye, we got the feeling that this year, our favorite looks were inspired by the actresses' desire to look like themselves. And, we wouldn't have it any other way.
