Do you think it's exhausting for Mindy Kaling to be so witty, or does she just wake up snapping hilarious one-liners? If this appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! is any indication, it's most definitely the latter. While promoting new episodes of The Mindy Project, the actress brought along a recent red-carpet picture in which she's rocking an awesome crop top. Apparently people (read: the Internet) had some pretty interesting things to say about her outfit.
"People were like, 'She's just so courageous [for wearing a crop top],'" Kaling told Kimmel. "But, really, aren't surgeons courageous?" She also addressed the legions of commenters who assume she's attempting to be a poster girl for curvy bodies — which, by the way, she is not.
"I am also the recipient of a lot of backhanded compliments," she said. "People are like, 'It's so nice that Mindy Kaling doesn't feel like she needs to subscribe to the ideals of beauty that other people do.' And, I'm like, 'I do subscribe!'...By the way, I run and work out. It takes a lot of effort to look like a normal/chubby woman." That last line left the audience in a pile of applause. We know she never asked to be the-one-and-only curvy role model, but we sure hope she doesn't mind being an icon of awesomeness.
