We assumed Pharrell would be the adidas collaborator we'd be the most happy about this year. But, maybe that's just because we didn't know what was coming next. Today, the athletic brand announced that they're teaming up with none other than Mary Katrantzou, the young U.K. fashion star that's made our print-loving hearts sing ever since her 2009 London Fashion Week debut. Really, we should have seen this one coming.
Shoes dominated the prints in Katrantzou's spring '13 lineup, with dresses resembling deconstructed versions of loafers and trainers. And, yes, we're taking that as a clue for what designs may be in store for adidas' upcoming collection, to be released in November. But, for a designer whose graphics have always been more abstract than literal, we won't look strictly to these sneaker print for hints of what's in store. In fact, from scanning the entire past two seasons alone, we've found tons of inspiration that could very well translate into a pair of adidas Classics — perhaps even a print-explosion Samba.
Sadly, real sketches of the upcoming collection have not yet been released. In the meantime, we're letting our imaginations run a wild with five Mary Katrantzou designs we're praying adidas picks up.
