Inside The Craziest, Most Artsy Benefit, Ever

We love to get dressed up and party. But, for some reason the words "ball" or "gala" or "benefit" can be a major turn off. Formal can be fun or it can just be, well, formal, and in all the wrong ways. Leave it to the Brooklyn Museum to throw one helluva fundraiser we'd relive in a heartbeat.

This year's Brooklyn Artists Ball, which took place on Wednesday night, was full of personality. Each table, situated in a beautiful atrium of the Prospect Heights museum, was decorated by a local up-and-coming artist. Artist Olek adorned a table full of crocheted centerpieces. But, we think our table by Nina Katchadourian was the most fun. Each guest received a bag full of makeshift costumes to look like a famous work of art.

After the awards were announced for Ai Weiwei, Kehinde Wiley, and Jenny Holzer via a futuristic on-screen presentation, guests were led downstairs to a candy installation by Amirah Kassem of Flour Shop. Think cotton candy, popcorn, and sour gummy treats all around in a 3-D sugar tunnel. Add a presentation by Le1f and a Refinery29 photo booth and, yep, you've got the best ball, ever.
