If you're a fan of Lois Lowry's iconic 1993 young-adult novel, The Giver, you're probably eager (or curious, at least) to see the big-screen adaptation of the same name. Starring Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, and newcomer Brenton Thwaites as Jonas, the film won't hit screens until August 15, but the Weinstein Company has kindly released a few stills to tide you over until then.
A few items worth noting: For starters, Taylor Swift plays Rosemary in the film, a role that requires a brunette wig and a certain amount of melancholy. Katie Holmes and Alexander Skarsgård star as Jonas' rather attractive parents (yes, Dawson's Creek fans, you're allowed to feel old).
Streep and Bridges both go gray for the film; the former sporting a heavy fringe in the role as the Chief Elder. Lastly, you might recognize Thwaites, a 24-year-old Aussie who is clearly not a 12-year-old boy, from Maleficent, in which he plays Prince Phillip.
Now that you're more or less up to speed, take a moment to get a sneak peek of the film's utopian scenes. Patience is overrated.
