The three remaining films of the Divergent franchise are getting pretty stacked with talent these days. Last week, the news dropped that Suki Waterhouse had signed on for her first-ever movie role. Now, today The Hollywood Reporter brings word of another big name. Naomi Watts joins Insurgent as Evelyn, the leader of the Factionless group.
Without giving too much away, Watts will also star in the final two films based on the third novel, Allegiant. Since Insurgent began shooting last week in Atlanta, this new deal requires the actress to book it down South to join Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ansel Elgort, and Miles Teller, who have all returned to reprise their roles from the first flick.
The YA genre is a new frontier for Watts, who typically sticks to heavier fare, but she has done her share of action movies. (Remember King Kong?) The only area where she may need a boost is the accent department — her Australian lilt is a far cry from that Chicago twang. (The Hollywood Reporter)
