Fashion Pioneer Nicole Richie Braves The Footless-Pants Trend

It's possible that resort jumped the shark as far as pants trends go. It's one thing to try a super-wide-legged style, but a whole other to make shoes a thing of the past. Or — as Nicole Richie's outfit asks — is it?

Richie herself tried the disappearing-feet act at a red carpet event yesterday. The petite, purple-haired style star chose a pair of trousers that sat way above her belly button and barely grazed the floor, despite her wearing (what we suspect is) a stiletto heel. While we can argue that this look would trip us up or, worse, instantly muddy a pristine piece of clothing, we're all for the way Nicole styled it. Her lower half may be footless, but the top balances things with a bit more skin, courtesy of a sheer crop top with ornate cut-outs.

As for footwear, the only clue we have is the smallest hint of a mint-green toe peeking out beneath the shoe-hiding hem. If it wasn't for that little tease, we might start considering feet obsolete. Imagine the time we'd all save on pedicures?
