You've got to hand it to those Hunger Games marketing geniuses. With roughly five months to go before Mockingjay: Part 1 hits cinemas, they're jumping right into the business of making sure everyone's got Katniss & Co. on their minds. Boy, do we ever.
A mock-campaign from the Capitol Ministry of Information is celebrating seven heroes from Panem's districts, complete with an informative (faux) biography of each honoree. Take for example, this tribute (sorry) to Elias Haan, a one-legged lumberjack from District 7, the Lumber District.
"May Elias Haan and his introspective wisdom inspire your continued championing of the Capitol’s goals of peace, unity, and the protection of our 'One Panem,'" the Capitol statement says. "As you tend to the finest forests and provide your fellow brethren with the most beautiful and flawless lumber, remember that the Capitol treasures your dedication to society. It is your duty as a citizen of Panem to protect the system we have worked tirelessly to conceive. Embrace the challenges of strenuous labor, and remember the instrumental role you play in the preservation of our country."
See, even fictional governments have propaganda. Needless to say, Katniss Everdeen will have her work cut out for her as she leads the rebellion against President Snow and his cronies. Speaking of which, when are we going to get a three-finger salute emoji? Get on it, Internet.
