The One Item You Should Start Thrifting, According To Miu Miu

Summer is the unofficial season of the thrifter. We're taking vacations to far-flung locales, there are plenty of outdoor flea markets to mosey around, and (hopefully) we all have a little more time to properly dig through the racks. So, with that in mind, we'll commit one more item to memory before our next scouring trip occurs. Because, if the Miu Miu runway is any indication, it's a trend that could hit its stride this winter: the crochet sweater vest.
With the debut of Miu Miu's resort '14 collection, this early '70s staple is making a return in a new (but just as quirky) way. And, with the fashion industry's love of crazy prints — as well as Miuccia Prada's mastery of ugly-pretty — it makes perfect sense that the shrunken knit is back. It unabashedly clashes colors, has a texture that brings to mind arts and crafts, and cuts off at an awkwardly cropped hem. And, really, we sorta love it. After all, this past weekend's Paris show not only juxtaposed the vests with billowy silk dresses, it also worked the pieces into monochrome ensembles, proving that the Brady Bunch-era trend can also be worn in a modern, minimal way.
While we're keen to wait and score a Prada-approved version come winter — especially in the bright aqua or crimson shades for those ready to go full-tilt — we also suggest keeping your eyes peeled for retro, DIYed, colorblocked mini vests the next time your summer travels lead you to thrifted treasure. This summer's score could be next winter's wardrobe MVP.
