Marc Jacobs. Chanel. Yves Saint Laurent. Christian Dior. Giorgio Armani. Tom Ford. Dolce & Gabbana. The list of luxury fashion designers with their own beauty lines is a rather short and exclusive one, populated by womenswear designers with either tons of history or tons of buzz. Well, that prestigious list is about to get one name longer starting this August, when famed footwear designer Christian Louboutin will throw his hat into the ring with the launch of Christian Louboutin Beauté.
Yes, the patron saint of crimson soles is getting in on the beauty game, but in typical fashion, he's forging his own path. Rather than dip his toe in with a fragrance or even an ever-trendy color cosmetics line, Louboutin has chosen to unveil an entire range of nail polishes. And, these aren't just any lacquers — it's super-artsy, $50-a-pop nail polish that will be sold not at a beauty store but in the shoe department alongside all those covetable, delicious, towering heels.
We know, we know — seems a bit crazy right? We thought so, too, until we sat down with the man himself to learn all about his motivations. "The red sole was born from red nail polish," says the designer. "I am giving back to nails what the shoe took from the nails so many years ago."
That was just one delightful tidbit we learned on an immersive four-day Parisian journey inside the world of Christian Louboutin. Ahead, get an exclusive sneak peek into the making of Christian Louboutin Beauté, along with an in-depth interview with the man himself — who, we might add, is one of the most inspiring, all-around-charming human beings we've ever had the pleasure of meeting. And, of course, get your first look at those nail lacquers in all their crazy-amazing glory.
