Emma Watson's role as Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women is off to a good start. Yesterday, the Harry Potter actress stood up for women's rights — and all she had to do was laugh.
Watson tweeted a photo of herself laughing as part of the #direnkahkaha Twitter protest against Turkey's deputy prime minister. Bülent Arinç is under fire for saying that women "should not laugh in public." We'll just see about that, pal.
The sexist comments have prompted Turkish women to share photos of themselves laughing. The #direnkahkaha hashtag translates to "resist laughter."
Arinç, meanwhile, says his statement was taken "out of context" and he "would have to be an idiot" to actually ban women from laughing in public.

"From one and a half hours of my speech, some only heard what I said about women laughing in the street," he told journalists. "What a disgusting, ugly, and unfounded fabrication."
As a parting shot, he lashed out against celebrities who engage in "fake laughter" and women "who never miss the chance to wrap themselves around a dancing pole."
Ready for your rebuttal, Ms. Watson. (The Hollywood Reporter)
