With Lifetime's Aaliyah biopic continuing to ruffle feathers, the network has announced plans to bring the story of yet another gone-too-soon celebrity to the small screen.
On September 6, Lifetime will air The Brittany Murphy Story, a biopic depicting the childhood, career, and final years of the late Clueless and Girl, Interrupted star. Murphy, who died at age 32 in 2009, will be played by Amanda Fuller of Last Man Standing.
Former Twin Peaks star Sherilyn Fenn will play Murphy's mother, Sharon. Early details suggest that much of the movie's material comes from Sharon's perspective, including her fight to dispel rumors about her daughter's mysterious death. Both Murphy and husband Simon Monjack, who died five months later, succumbed to pneumonia and other causes, a coroner ruled.

Though Sharon Murphy will be a prominent figure in the film, her spokesperson has said that she has not consulted with Lifetime or cooperated with the project at all. Does this mean we can expect Aaliyah-level signs of drama?
We love a sappy, soapy TV movie as much as the next guy, but perhaps Lifetime's better off reenacting the nobody-cares-anymore antics of Saved By The Bell than digging up dirt on yet another tragic star? (The Hollywood Reporter)
