Mara Wilson’s Tribute To Robin Williams Is Pretty Special

Of all the celebrities who spoke after the death of the late, great Robin Williams, his former co-star Mara Wilson was one of the most affected. The former child star — who played Williams' daughter in Mrs. Doubtfire — couldn't even comment on his death until three days later, because she "wasn't emotionally prepared."
Wilson has since had time to grieve and gather her thoughts, which she posted on her blog earlier today. She moonlights as a writer, so it's no surprise that her prose is as eloquent and heartfelt as anything that's been written about the actor since his death.

"He always reminded me a little of my father," she begins, before calling him "warm, gentle, expressive, nurturing, and brilliant."
Like many of those who had the chance to work with Williams, Wilson couldn't help but marvel at his prodigious talent. She also writes about a chance encounter they had while she was a student at NYU and he was shooting a film in Washington Square Park. It was the first time they'd seen each other in years:
"I went up to him while he was walking away from the set to his trailer, and called his name. He turned around, not sure what to make of the girl in the glasses and NYU hoodie calling him like she knew him.
“It’s me!” I said. “It’s Mara.”
“Oh, Mara!” He told me how grown up I looked and asked how I liked NYU. It was small talk, but something about the way Robin looked at me made it feel like he truly cared. This was someone for whom everything mattered.
