Agyness Deyn’s New Fashion Line Is Inspired By Patti Smith & Other Tomboys

Remember Agyness Deyn? The punk-lite former chip-shop girl with the peroxide pixie who dominated the runways in, like, 2009? Who was supposed to be the new Kate Moss before disappearing some time in 2010 to work on an acting career?
Well, the former British model of the year has finally emerged from the wilds of Los Angeles with a new clothing line called Title A, which debuted on Net-a-Porter last week. The “androgynous” collection — inspired by such feminist style icons as Patti Smith, Katharine Hepburn and… um…Cathy Horyn — offers “menswear clothes without the feminine touch...like darts and things like that,” Deyn told The Cut.
But, here’s the thing: The clothes — which Deyn designed with her sister Emily — are good. Like, really good. There’s a raffish, oversized pinstriped wool coat; a luxurious jacquard midi-skirt; boxy oxford shirts; velvet smoking jackets; easy-breezy, minimalist slip dresses. It has a sort of glamorously effortless quality, a kind of gender-bending panache that not only recalls Patti Smith, but also Oscar Wilde or Mick Jagger. (The prices, ranging from about $200 for a cotton button-down to $650 for a full-length, double-breasted wool coat, aren’t terrrrible either.)
“It’s more of embracing femininity with whatever you wear,” Deyn told The Cut of her androgynous designs. “I think capturing the femininity of a woman [happens] when you see her rather than seeing the clothes.” Welcome back, Aggy! (The Cut)
