There’s A Mermaid In L.A….

If you recently spotted a woman in a black-latex mermaid suit popping up around L.A. with a photographer at her side, you've likely had some questions — so did we. Turns out, you were actually witnessing two artists at work, shooting what they hope will one day become a gallery show and book about a fictional character dubbed Permaid.

Recently, we got up close and personal with the best friends behind the project, photographer Aeschleah DeMartino and fashion designer Nicolette Mishkan — a.k.a. L.A.'s new S&M mermaid (er, Permaid). The duo gave us the lowdown on their experiment, explaining the origins behind the project, what they aim to capture, and just how hard it is to see through the face-concealing mask.
