At the risk of sounding like every Facebook teaser, Tavi Gevinson does not look like this anymore. Well, not according to W. One of the things we love most about Tavi is how comfortable she is in her own skin. She was posting makeup-free selfies before celebrities jumped on the trend. In Tavi's case, though, they weren't self-congratulatory "look how exemplary I am." They were just, you know, photos.
That's why the W photo is so confusing. We understand that it's a high-fashion magazine that often alters images in certain ways to achieve desired effects. Still, there's a way to do that without making someone look like a completely different person.
W profiled Tavi ahead of her Broadway debut. While the accompanying photo is gorgeous, the person in it more closely resembles Michelle Williams. She's also on Broadway right now, so it actually may confuse readers who just look at pictures and don't bother reading the articles.
Again, there's nothing wrong with artistic photo shoots. But, when the subject is as unique and individual as Tavi, why bother using the infinite palate of ideas to make her look like someone else? See the photo in question on W.
