A 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Napa region of California this morning, causing power outages, widespread damage, and injuring more than 70 people. Local officials reported at least 36 aftershocks, and expect more over the next few days.
While major news outlets continue to report on the situation in Napa, social media has also been a helpful resource for updates. In particular, MC Hammer has transformed his Twitter account into a citizen journalist's log. The rapper began tweeting as soon as the earthquake hit, even nearly guessing its magnitude. He's been active on the social media platform ever since, communicating information about aftershocks, posting pictures of damage, and sending words of encouragement to the Bay Area.
Our thoughts are with all those affected, and we hope everyone's getting access to the appropriate help and services. But, for those who seek a unique perspective in the aftermath, MC Hammer's Twitter serves as pretty incredible source. It's no wonder he's earned the title of #quakewhisperer.
