On August 13, after a wave of Twitter trolls sent her disturbing images of her late father, comedian Robin Williams, Zelda Williams tweeted that she'd be leaving social media indefinitely. While 140 characters may not seem like much, it can be just the right amount of hate to make you want to quit the Internet for good. On Monday, however, Williams broke her social media silence, returning to Twitter with a poignant message for her readers.
Interestingly, her comeback seemed to be sparked by the same reason she left the platform in the first place — bullying. "Thank you," she tweeted, along with a link to a 2012 blog entry with a quote from Harvey Fierstein. "Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself," reads the quote.
Williams also posted a new entry on her blog on Friday — a quote from The Fellowship of the Ring. The excerpt reads: "I wish it need not have happened in my time, said Frodo. So do I, said Gandalf, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide it what to do with the time that is given us."
