Blue statement eyes made a huge comeback on the runways last season. From pretty washes of cerulean to loud pops of teal, the hue was poised to become a makeup must-have for fall. And, apparently, beyond: Honor's spring 2015 show featured graphic cat-eyes in a creamy, bright cornflower color with matching nails.
Like bold brows before it, blue eyeshadow is destined to become a Fashion Week beauty staple. It complements every skin tone, and it looks just as good in real life as on the runway. Sure, the trend is not exactly new. But, on a nude face and in a bold, opaque shape, it feels almost futuristic — perfectly straddling the line between throwback and ultra-modern.
To create the model's eyeshadow, makeup artist Polly Osmond mixed three different Kevyn Aucoin for Beauty.com products: Loose Shimmer Shadow in Lapis, and the Eye Pencil Primatif in Defining Navy and Basic White (launching next summer). She kept the lips nude and matte, and the skin flawlessly even-toned, using no blush. Hairstylist James Pecis created a loose, messy ponytail with a middle part, adding Phyto Professional Workable Holding Spray to the ends for that lived-in, casual texture.
As for that 3-D nail situation, manicurist Nonie Creme mixed a custom polish and dotted pearls onto each nail. While we'd probably skip the pearl part — it's not very practical for those of us who use our hands for more than posing — we're hoping someone recreates and bottles that shade ASAP.
