Here’s Who WE Want To See On SNL This Year

Your guess as to who's going to guest star on the next season of Saturday Night Live is as good as ours. It's a shot in hell, really. But, with its 40th season premiere upon us and speculation over who's going to be hosting later in the season already underway, we might as well start upping the ante on the show's possible musical guests.
Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, and Hozier are already confirmed, with Grande kicking things off on September 27 (along with host Chris Pratt). Billboard released its list of predictions this week, and it's pretty solid. Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, and Iggy Azalea all made it on to the 21-artist-deep list. Both Swift and Minaj have albums coming out this fall, and Azalea is, whether critics like it or not, the rapper du jour.
Other artists, like up-and-comers Vance Joy, Charli XCX, and FKA twigs, also made the cut, which makes sense. SNL's stage is an equal opportunity employer and doesn't necessarily favor A-listers. However, Billboard's prediction of U2 feels like a bit of a stretch considering the band's epic fail at releasing its latest album. Lorne Michaels would be wise to steer clear of that baggage.
Instead, he and the rest of the SNL team could bring the following 10 artists on. Each have considerable buzz about them (some are SNL regulars, too) and an album coming out sometime this year. We're no oracles, though. These are just hopes — lofty and culturally informed hopes. Let the bidding begin!
