Victoria Beckham Skipped Her Store Opening To Join The U.N.

If it's good enough for Emma Watson, it's good enough for Victoria Beckham. The designer has signed on to work with the United Nations in an effort to eradicate AIDS and the HIV virus from women and children.

Yesterday, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) appointed Beckham to the post of International Goodwill Ambassador. UNAIDS executive director Michel Sidibé praised the former pop star for her "creativity, innovation, and outreach."

Clearly, the cause is of the utmost importance to the mother of four. Beckham skipped the opening of her first London flagship store yesterday so that she could be in New York City for the UNAIDS presentation.

“This is the beginning of an important journey for me," said Beckham, who visited AIDS clinics in South Africa back in February. "As a woman and a mother I have a responsibility to support other women. I am proud and honored to be working with UNAIDS in this new role to help to raise resources and awareness to support and empower women and children affected by HIV."

It was a star-studded day at the U.N. British actor Idris Elba was also on hand to attend a meeting concerning the ebola outbreak. Could it be that Hermione Granger, Posh Spice, and Stringer Bell are going to save the world?
