The Shirtdress Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

In fashion, there are two kinds of basic. There are those great, classic items that always make an outfit look better (see: a perfectly tailored oxford shirt and a pair of ankle-cropped trousers). And, there's the kind of "basic" that happens to clothes that don't have an iota of personality. The shirtdress can easily go both ways — basic for the better, or, when done wrong, for the worse.

Still with me? Good. 'Cuz here's where it gets amazing: With one fell swoop, Dior was able to reinvent the shirt dress and eliminate any negative connotations entirely.

How'd Raf do it? Well, he took up the neckline and punched up the volume in the sleeves. Then, he extended the hemline to the ankles and added a bit of detailing by way of eyelet flowers. Several of these non-basic basics stomped down the runway with knee-high boots and handbags to match for an easy throw-on-and-go look that feels special. The overall effect is the most bad-ass dress you'd ever see on the prairie. Or, in Paris, for that matter.
