No tricks, just treats. J.K. Rowling has emerged from her writing frenzy to give Harry Potter fans a special Halloween/Nearly Headless Nick Deathday gift. As promised, the beloved author revealed a new short story about villain Dolores Umbridge. You remember, the pink-clad, kitten-loving Ministry of Magic meanie played by Imelda Staunton?
Available to read on Pottermore.com, the essay delves into Umbridge's background. For starters, it turns out she lied about her "pure blood" status and is actually a half blood. Typical.
Rowling is the first to admit that she's got a particular disdain for the cruel character, calling her "one of the characters for whom I feel the purest dislike." Umbridge, she reveals, was inspired by one of Rowling's own teachers, whom she "disliked intensely." Like Umbridge, that teacher also had a habit of wearing "twee accessories."

Sybill Trelawney also gets a mention in Rowling's latest Pottermore contribution. So, why are you still here when you could be reading this all for yourself?
