Running 26 miles is a lot. Like a lot, a lot. (Don't even get us started on that extra two-tenths of a mile.) It involves sacrificing wild and crazy Friday nights for regular Saturday training sessions, finding running partners in the most unconventional ways (yes, we're talking #Instagram), and eating just the right foods to power you along the way.
And, for some 50,000 runners each year, it all comes down to one moment — Marathon Sunday in New York City.
In celebration of those who take their athletic abilities (and self-discipline) the extra mile, we followed six runners on their inspiring New York City Marathon journeys. From the start at Fort Wadsworth to the incomparable finish in Central Park, we captured these women, their stories, and their sweat along the way. This is what the New York City Marathon really looks like.
