So, the people who guessed that Chris Pratt would be named People's 2014 Sexiest Man Alive get only half a gold star. Yes, a Marvel superhero who goes by the name of Chris IRL took home the prize, but this one comes from the other side of the world.
Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth surprised everyone when Jimmy Kimmel made the big reveal on his show Monday night. Most online pundits anointed Pratt as the odds-on favorite, with fellow human meme generators Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston not far behind. Even less likely candidates like Idris Elba and Neil Patrick Harris were getting lots of love in the Twittersphere (and both would have been inspired choices).

In the end, People decided to go for a more traditional heartthrob in Hemsworth. However, that doesn't mean he isn't worthy of the crown, which most recently belonged to Adam Levine (no, seriously). The 31-year-old actor has become one of Hollywood's most reliable leading men, thanks to his role as Norse god Thor in a handful of Marvel movies (up next: Avengers: Age of Ultron) and performances in Rush and Snow White and the Huntsman. Hemsworth will next be seen in Michael Mann's cyber thriller Blackhat and Ron Howard's Moby Dick saga, In the Heart of the Sea.
So, what does the actor think about the cheeky honor? "I think you've bought me a couple of weeks of bragging rights around the house," he told People. "I can just say to (wife Elsa Pataky), 'Now remember, this is what the people think, so I don't need to do the dishes anymore, I don't need to change nappies. I'm above that. I've made it now.'"
