Catch up on all your Netflix binge-watching now, because come March you'll have to clear your schedule for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
The bandwidth-sucking empire has snagged two seasons of the weird sitcom, which stars Ellie Kemper as just your average gal who moves to New York to write a sex advice column and ruin neighborhoods.
Kidding! Kemper's character Kimmy Schmidt has escaped from a doomsday cult after 15 years under lockdown. After appearing on the Today show, she decides, heck, why not just stay in NYC and see what happens? So, Kimmy rents a room with an actor named Titus (Tituss Burgess) who works as one of those guys who pretends to be a robot for tips from tourists. She also gets a gig as a nanny on the Upper East Side. Lessons will be learned! Kooky experiences will be had! Maybe even hats will be thrown, Mary Tyler Moore-style!
Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are the executive producers and writers, which makes us hopeful that the premise really isn't quite as tasteless as it sounds. Because, yes, Ellie Kemper is great, and we've missed 30 Rock something fierce, but in the wrong hands? Being kidnapped and held captive for 15 years isn't a laughing matter. On the other hand, you either laugh or you cry, right? (Variety)
