2014 was a trip. Taylor Swift said it best in "Wonderland:" Life was never worse, but never better." Rage and feminism abounded while the booty bounced its way through everything.
At the center of it all were the women. They infiltrated and instigated many of the more important pop cultural conversations over these past 365 days — from Beyoncé's surprise album that helped ring in 2014 to Jezebel's request for unretouched photos of Lena Dunham's Vogue shoot, to the heroines of dystopian young adult fiction, the celebrity nude photo hack, and, well, Kim Kardashian. Girls ran the world and will continue to do so in the next year.
It's difficult to predict what exactly is going to unfold over the next 12 months, but certain pop culture themes grow and evolve cyclically. Who we're talking about today is who we will be talking about tomorrow — only with a few fresh faces peppered in to keep us on our toes.
So, let's make a few predictions. There's a whole new year on the horizon ripe with new names, movies, artists, events, and happenings to like, reblog, tweet, and share.
But, first? Let's take one last selfie.
