Make some noise for Emma Watson, y'all. The actress has just been named the top feminist celebrity of 2014 in a poll conducted by the Ms. Foundation for Women and Cosmopolitan.com.
The Harry Potter star has emerged as the face of feminism — Hollywood-style, at any rate — thanks to her U.N. speech and #HeForShe movement calling for gender equality. She is also the U.N. Global Goodwill Ambassador focusing primarily on women's rights.
The newly single Brit isn't the only celebrity being recognized for her feminist outlook. Orange Is the New Black star and trans* advocate Laverne Cox came second in the poll, followed by Rachel Maddow, Beyoncé, Cher, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Meryl Streep, Mindy Kaling, and Ann Curry. Surprisingly, Lena Dunham didn't make the cut.
Thanks for the inspiration, gals. Drinks are on us tonight.
