Actor Edward Herrmann has unfortunately passed away at the age of 71. He was beloved by many for his role as Richard Gilmore on Gilmore Girls.
As the patriarch of the Gilmore clan, Herrmann spouted memorable platitudes such as "Only prostitutes have two glasses of wine at lunch!" and "Cranking Metallica? If that's some sort of drug reference, it isn't funny."
His more recent work included a stint on The Good Wife and the final season of How I Met Your Mother. Hermann's first major role was in 1973's The Paper Chase. He also had a memorable turn as Grant Stayton III in 1987's Overboard.
Herrmann's family told TMZ that he had been battling brain cancer and spent the past few weeks in the ICU. They made the difficult decision to remove Herrmann from the respirator this morning.
Herrmann is survived by his wife, Star, and three children. He will be missed by millions of devoted Gilmore fans. (TMZ)
