Lena Dunham's had a tough time with social media lately. In fact, in the past year, she's had a tough time in general. It seems at every turn, she was defending quotes from her book or things she's said on Twitter. Maybe that's why she's off the 140-character medium for now.
During a Golden Globes red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest, an upbeat Dunham explained that she's deleted Twitter — at least from her phone. She explained that it was a choice made for her own sanity.
"I deleted Twitter because I'm trying to create a safer space for myself emotionally," she told the E! presenter. When Seacrest pushed for more details, the Girls creator said Twitter is a place where "people threaten my life and tell me what a cow I am."
Despite the sad reasons behind her choice, Dunham said it was a good one. The actress told Seacrest that, while she and Twitter are currently on the outs, it's a much healthier relationship this way.
