Our New Year's resolutions tend to revolve around the gym. For 2015, though, we're just committing to dressing like we're going to the gym. The trend du jour is athleisure — spearheaded by Alexander Wang, endorsed by Rihanna, and kept alive by all of us. Traditional athletic brands are taking note, catering to the fashion crowd with edgy, sport-themed collaborations to quench their athleisure thirst. Champion recently took the plunge with a capsule collection featuring three big-name designers and one cult-favorite shopping destination.
For Champion Select, which is sold exclusively at Urban Outfitters, the brand tapped Timo Weiland of New York, Craig Green of London, and Wood Wood from Copenhagen — a list curated by Capsule Show — giving them the distinct responsibility of reimagining Champion's signature aesthetic. The result is surprisingly seamless: The silhouettes are practical, the construction performance-geared, and the look decidedly edgy. The pieces fit where they're supposed to, are loose where they need to be, and evoke sporty-chic coolness throughout. While certain items like the bra top and basketball short are made with the gym in mind, the line also boasts pieces — namely, three dresses, one by each designer — that are more appropriate for an off-duty, athleisure-inclined wardrobe.
Starting at $49 for a Wood Wood bra top, the Champion Select capsule is now available online at Urban Outfitters, as well as in select brick-and-mortar collections and Space Ninety 8 in Brooklyn. Check out the lookbook, along with other pieces from the collection, ahead.
