John Mayer — Grammy-winning musician and amateur photographer — tried his hand at late-night hosting as a fill-in on The Late Late Show last night. He also demonstrated his dancing skills. Between the jokes he cracked and the moves he busted, he proved another fact about himself: He is basically a dad.
The scenes from the episode are completely cringeworthy. Comedic timing just does not seem to be his thing. Though, that's what we expect from a guest host, isn't it? They're never going to deliver the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am jokes and one-liners of the pros, especially someone like Craig Ferguson who has been doing this for years. But, Mayer did score two major guests for his hosting debut: Katy Perry's Super Bowl sharks.
As you can imagine, there are some bruised egos happening with Right Shark, who lives in the shadow of #LeftShark. These two animals are the sassiest pair you've seen in a while. Their Super Bowl fame has gone straight to their heads. When Mayer asks them to dance with him in hopes of making a viral video, the sharks decline, as they no longer perform for less than $100K. Fair enough, finned friends. Fair enough.
Having seen what Left Shark looks like IRL, it's unclear why we can't hear more audience members shouting, "Take it offfffff." Below, the full episode. But, if you're interested in seeing just the shark portion, cue the video up to about 8:30.
