New York Fashion Week, as you probably know, kicks off Thursday. Gigi Hadid, as you also probably know, is poised to be a breakout star on the runway this season. The model was spotted in Soho yesterday, and though nothing’s been confirmed just yet, it’s not likely that she'll just spend her time shopping — she'll be jaunting between go-sees, too. Regardless of what the next few days hold for her, she was certainly dressed the part of a top model.

Since doubling up on outerwear is the only way to deal with the East Coast weather at the moment, she tossed an embroidered Stella McCartney cape over a snug moto jacket. It’s a genius styling trick that’ll keep you as warm as the ubiquitous Canada Goose parka — but will look way, way cooler. The rest of her layers were simple and sleek. Classic blue jeans and a navy crewneck proved that sometimes basics can be the best. Meanwhile, a flashy metallic carryall and a clever peek of a silver, Western-style belt brought just enough glamour to prove she’s ready for the spotlight.
