This Is What The Oscar-Nominated Movie Posters Would Look Like If Kanye Made Them

When Kanye West launched his design company DONDA in 2012, the goal was simple: "[To] help simplify and aesthetically improve everything we see hear, touch, taste and feel." In the roughly three years since, however, DONDA has really only had its hand in album art, with Nicki Minaj's Pinkprint and Kim Kardashian West's selfie book cover as some of its most recent endeavors.
West's intention was to infiltrate all popular media, though, and movie posters still seem to be stuck in the strange, pseudo-simplicity of Apple's Helvetica movement. The folks over at Complex realized this and went ahead and put their DONDA hats on, specifically editors Frazier Tharpe and James Harris.
"James and I were kicking around ideas for an art project with movie posters for Oscar-related content, and definitely had a few duds before we landed on the DONDA idea," Tharpe told us over e-mail. "Since that collective has a pretty clear aesthetic when it comes to the products they put out into the world, we just thought it'd be fun to take on a project that allowed us to play around with two arenas that fall within our sweet spot but will probably never interact. We brainstormed an idea for each film, and were blown away with Danny [Scanzoni]'s work in bringing the concepts to life. Hopefully it happens for real one day soon."
