Melissa Rivers wants you to remember that no matter what you read in the news, Zendaya is a friend of Fashion Police — a show formerly hosted by her late mother and on which she serves as executive producer.
After Joan Rivers passed away in September 2014, some accepted that Fashion Police wouldn't be the same without her. Kathy Griffin has taken over along with Giuliana Rancic and Kelly Osbourne, but their attempts to mimic the late Rivers' barbed jests have met mixed reviews among viewers. Where Rivers could share criticism of A-listers with little to no consequence, successors Griffin and Rancic haven't enjoyed the same luxury.
On Tuesday night's Fashion Police, E! presenter Giuliana Rancic commented on actress and singer Zendaya's dreadlocks she wore on the Oscars red carpet Sunday night, saying that they make her look like she "smells like patchouli oil. Or, weed." Shortly after, Zendaya took to Instagram to respond to the tone-deaf comments, stating: "There is already harsh criticism of African-American hair in society without the help of ignorant people who choose to judge others based on the curl of their hair. My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough."
On Wednesday, Zendaya publicly forgave Rancic after the presenter went on-air to apologize for her comments.
To endear viewers who may feel turned off by Rancic's comments, Rivers shared a #TBT of Joan and Zendaya on Fashion Police. "We [at the show] have nothing but love for Zendaya then and now. A repeat guest host," she captioned the photo.
Though Rivers pointed out Zendaya is a guest host who's appeared many times on the show, the question remains if the singer will ever appear again on Fashion Police.
