J.K. Rowling holds so much sway over her fans. She tweets something. Everyone loses their shit. Tweet, repeat, tweet, repeat. It's a lot of power — and boy, does she know it.
Yesterday the Harry Potter author used that power for evil, pulling off a Twitter prank that, frankly, we fans probably had coming. But, can we help it everything she posts is so witty, exciting, and revealing that it must be retweeted and written about a million times over?
Rowling's been known to toss a spoiler out now and then, so her followers no doubt thought Christmas had come early when she posted a photo of Percy Weasley and a friend. You could almost hear the wheels turning in their heads: a Potter prequel? A spin-off? Nope.
Below, the message she posted in full:
Why has Percy Weasley got his arm around Narcissa Malfoy? Find out in my new... kidding. I'M KIDDING. #NotAPrequel pic.twitter.com/ZZ6HJZrDY3

Humph. Good one, Joanne. Way to play with our emotions. Some fans got a little outraged about the trick, but perhaps we should let this be lesson: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
