Winning a World Cup in the ski racing world is a big deal, something many athletes aspire to and, with the right combination of preparation, training, and to some extent, luck, a few will actually do.
But because Lindsey Vonn is arguably one of the best ever —and coincidentally, on International Women's Day—she just won her 65th World Cup, completing the super-G in one minute and 15 seconds. Which is kind of insane, given that it wasn't too long ago when the Olympic medalist was rumored to be en route to retiring given her history of injuries (the latest of which, where she completely tore her ACL — and yes, it's as excruciatingly painful as it sounds — caused her to withdraw from the Sochi Olympics), and her age, 30—which, by human standards is relatively young, but is considered old, as far as professional athletes go.
Vonn also has a creative side to her: you might remember her collaboration with designer Cynthia Rowley, where the duo produced a series of quirky, watercolor-inspired helmet concepts for Lindsey's fans to vote on, and ultimately, choose as a winner for her to don during the Sochi games. After today's win, there'll no doubt be an increased demand for all things Lindsey—with legions of future girl skiers looking up to their leader not just for her athletic prowess, but her personal style choices—so maybe it'll also help serve as a spark for another design collab?
