Uzo Aduba knows how to make us feel all the feels as Suzanne
"Crazy Eyes" Warren on Orange Is the New Black. That's how she won
those sweet little Emmy and SAG awards. In real life, she's also about to make us cry today.
Aduba, who hails from Medfield, Massachusetts, spoke to
People about why she's running the Boston Marathon this year (on April 20) and how
she'll do it. "It feels like the right thing to do," she said.
"[The aftermath of the marathon bombings] still feels pretty raw, and with
[the trial] it almost feels like a Band-Aid getting pulled back again. That's
where I grew up, where I learned what a marathon even was...to be a part of
it, it feels particularly special."
Boston pride isn't the only thing motivating her. She's also
raising money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in honor of a friend who
lost her battle with breast cancer last fall and a cousin who did two years
before.
That's moving enough, but the part that's making our hearts swell today is the motto that got her through the New York Marathon two years
ago, and which she plans on following for life:
"Just keep going,"
she said. "Life is going to try and beat you down. Whether you're going
through hills like Heartbreak Hill [the Boston Marathon's final, legendary
incline] or hills like prison sentences, if you keep going the other side of
the hill is down. You just have to push through because what's on the other
side is glorious." (People)
