Regardless of whether you felt a change in the air or not, a coronation has officially taken place. Vogue has anointed a new Brat Pack, and they're all featured in a dreamy spread in the magazine's April issue. This new posse, which includes Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Ansel Elgort, and Dylan and Hopper Penn (daughter and son of Sean Penn and Robin Wright), is also dubbed "the Instagram aristocracy."
Unlike the Brat Pack of yore, whose exploits were well-documented by gossip columnists and viewed almost with disdain, Vogue presents the 2015 version as FOMO-inducing aspirational figments of fame. This is a crew whose exploits are captured 24/7 not just by paparazzi, but also through their own lens.
Hadid, Jenner, Bieber, et al. are fully comfortable living what Vogue dubs "the fishbowl life" in Los Angeles. The spread tries to evoke their stylish-yet-spontaneous daily existence, with Mario Testino photographing them in both carefully posed street style shots and goofier, behind-the-scenes moments. Jenner and Hadid were likely already at ease with Testino, having already worked with him on his Instagram "Towel Series."
The best part of the spread, though, are the gems that emerge from Justin Bieber's mouth. "I'm actually an introvert," Biebs tells Vogue. "I've been kind of on the low, just working on the new album. Maybe I've had too much time on my hands," he continues, a wink to his tabloid misadventures as of late.
He really does put the "brat" in Brat Pack. (Vogue)
