All is not well in the house of Barton.
Echoing Marissa and Julie Cooper's mother-daughter issues, former O.C. star Mischa Barton has filed a lawsuit against her mother for exploiting her fame and withholding earnings. Nuala Barton is branded as a "greedy stage mother" in the papers filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
"This action arises from the tragic tale of a greedy stage mother posing as a talent manager who, instead of acting in the best interest of her daughter/client, schemed to defraud her unsuspecting victim," the lawsuit charges, according to documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
"These revelations of exploitation and fraud, coupled with ongoing instances of bullying and verbal abuse, eventually led to the breakdown of Barton and Nuala's personal and professional relationship," read the complaint.
Barton also charges that her mother has withheld earnings from acting and modeling projects, instead doling out an "allowance." The actress alleges that Nuala encouraged her to purchase a $7.8 million Beverly Hills home with her listed as co-owner. According to Barton, her parents now live in the home and she is "not welcome at the property."
Nuala Barton, whose representatives declined to comment to THR, is also accused of using her daughter's name for endorsements, including a Mischa Barton boutique in London, which shuttered last year.
Needless to say, it's all very messy. Stay tuned to see how it all plays out in court.
