Hearing that Rihanna and Chris Brown are collaborating in any way — be it life or music — always leaves a sour taste in our mouths. But, a leaked duet the pair recorded a while back is actually making us feel a little sick to our stomachs.
Brown mentioned the track, titled “Put It Up,” in an interview earlier this month, but it didn’t hit the airwaves until yesterday; (supposedly, Rihanna didn’t want it released after the singers’ most recent breakup). While it’s an admittedly catchy tune, the explicit lyrics — on top of the former couple’s long-documented history of abuse — are exactly the kind of creeptastic crap we’ve come to expect from Chris Brown.
The song begins with Rihanna's voice: "Baby ain't no need to be scared of me." A few minutes in, Brown sings “Treat me like I’m your property / do what you want" — which sounds like a pretty clear way to equate love and sex with ownership and control. Be forewarned, you're also going to hear about licking and Skype sex. In sum, it's gross. Our only hope is that this song is just a one-off and not an indication that Chris Brown and Rihanna will be getting back together any time soon.
