Update: Joni Mitchell's official website has issued a statement to contradict Internet reports that she is in a coma and unresponsive. "Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma. Joni is still in the hospital —but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected. The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority — in the absence of 24-hour doctor care — to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital. As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts. You may add your well wishes for her at the website WeLoveYouJoni.com." The following post was published on April 28, 2015 at 6:50 p.m.:
In an unfortunate piece of news, TMZ is reporting that Joni Mitchell's health has taken a turn for the worse. Earlier this month, the singer was found unconscious in her home and was rushed to the hospital. She reportedly regained consciousness and was placed in intensive care. A short while ago, TMZ wrote that Mitchell's recovery has since halted. She is now "unconscious in a hospital, unable to respond to anyone, with no immediate prospects for getting better." TMZ is also reporting that Mitchell's close friend Leslie Morris has "filed legal docs to obtain a conservatorship over the legendary singer. Morris says Joni told her she has no close relatives who could assume the role."  Per TMZ, the documents also say that Mitchell is "so impaired as to be incapable of being assessed." We will update this story as developments occur. (TMZ)
