Anna Kendrick Sticks Up For Mae Whitman Over Independence Day 2 Casting

Reason #481 why we want to be friends with Anna Kendrick: She's the ultimate cheerleader.  Despite breaking our hearts into tiny pieces with her crumply cry face in Independence Day, Mae Whitman will be not playing former First Daughter Patricia Whitmore in the sequel. Though original castmembers like Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, and Jeff Goldblum will reprise their roles, Patricia will now be played by 21-year-old It Follows scream queen Maika Monroe. (Monroe would have been three when the original film came out, but that's Hollywood for you.) Kendrick, however, is not having it. The Pitch Perfect 2 star took to Twitter yesterday to express her disappointment that Whitman, her costar in 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, would not be reprising the role she made famous, despite having just helmed The DUFF. Gotta love that female solidarity.

Whitman soon tweeted her thanks.
Kendrick's outrage probably won't make any difference as far as the casting goes, but it's lovely to see her stick up for her talented friend. Can we get these two together in, say, Pitch Perfect 3
