Kristen Stewart Spills On Sexism, Stress, & Cheeseburgers

Kristen Stewart hasn’t always had a reputation for being easy to work with, but it seems the actress is finally ready to let her guard down — if only a little. Seen on the cover of Harper's Bazaar UK June issue, Stewart gets candid about what it’s really like to be a young woman in Hollywood, opening up about sexism, body image, control issues, and the tradeoff for fame. “Hollywood is disgustingly sexist. It’s crazy. It’s so offensive it’s crazy,” the Cloud of Sils Maria star says. Stewart should know — she started working at 17 years old on the Twilight films, and her career only skyrocketed from there.  Fame hasn't been easy, though: “I started out in situations that were quite foreign to me, photo shoots, famous photographers, having to deal with designers. I felt quite out of place and young. And, I remember meeting some of the worst people you could possibly imagine. Just soul-sucking, cut-throat fashion people, the full-on Devil Wears Prada.”  Over time, Stewart has learned how to handle these types of people — and to calm herself down — but she admits to struggling with the unknown. “Control issues make me so nervous,” she says. ”It’s not knowing what’s going to happen... My palms sweat, my knees shake, I don’t think I can stand in my heels, I’m breathing heavily, I feel nauseous.” All that anxiety takes its toll on her health, too. Stewart shared that she’s a little bigger than a sample size when she’s “eating cheeseburgers and am happy and comfortable,” but when she’s stressed out, the weight falls off. “My weight and my sleep are tied to my nervous system,” she says. “Sometimes I’ll sleep for 12 hours a night and sometimes sleep just doesn’t exist for me for a couple months.”  No sleep for months?! That would definitely explain why the actress has been snarly sometimes in the past (among other things, like the paparazzi — who she refers to a "cockroaches" — crawling all over her personal life). Get the full scoop on Stewart's tell-all in the Bazaar June issue, on stands April 30.
