At long last, the royal baby is here. Bet you thought it would never happen, right?
Kate Middleton — formally known as the Duchess of Cambridge — welcomed her second child at 8:34 a.m. BST this morning, Kensington Palace announced. Enough with the suspense: It's a girl.
The princess' name has yet to be announced, but the palace said that she and her mother are "doing well." The baby girl weighed 8 lbs., 3 oz. and was delivered at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London's Paddington area, exceeding the mid-to-late April due date. Then again, one is never too young to learn the value of arriving fashionably late.
As younger sibling to Prince George, who is third in line to the throne, the princess has a slim shot of one day claiming the crown. You never know, though — perhaps George will one day abdicate when he falls in love with an American heiress by the name of North West?
