Lena Dunham Will NOT Be Shamed For Buying Selfish

Rex USA
Lena Dunham wants you to know that she won’t be shamed into feeling bad about buying Kim Kardashian’s Selfish. Fittingly, the Girls star shared this information by posting an Instagram selfie, wherein she held the book and channeled its author’s signature pouty mouth. How very meta of her. “Selfie with Selfish #yeahiboughtit,” the actress cheekily captioned the post. But, she also gave us food for thought about how the book should be received. “I support experiments in female identity exploration/am a student of pop culture/will not be shamed,” she added.  We're actually on board with this characterization of Kardashian's adult picture book. Think about it: If you were going to send a time capsule into space with a tome that channeled the zeitgeist of American pop culture in 2015, Selfish might just be the perfect pick. Beyond being a good way to distract yourself while waiting in the agonizingly long Urban Outfitters line, this book is pretty emblematic of our times. Selfish is about individualism and self-centeredness, celebrity worship and carefully crafted personal documentation. It’s about finding your best angles and highlighting them. It poses the question: “If a tree falls in the forest, and I did not take a selfie with it, was there ever really a tree to begin with?” Honestly, we wouldn't be surprised if Selfish appears on the course syllabi of sociology departments across the U.S. next fall. What's more: We would totally take that class, and would not be shamed about it.
