Miley Cyrus Partners With Instagram For #InstaPride Campaign

It's difficult for Miley Cyrus to surprise us these days. Between odd dye jobs and her latest magazine spread, our eyebrows raise a little bit less with every new story. The 22-year-old pop star is eccentric and outspoken, to say the least. But when she uses her unabashed candor to speak openly about the issues she's most passionate about (which often leads to virtual arguments), we sit up and take particular notice. In May, Cyrus launched The Happy Hippie Foundation, a nonprofit that supports homeless youth, LGBT youth, and other vulnerable populations. On June 15, she took her activism one step further with #InstaPride — a partnership with Instagram (as well as HHF) that will "share stories of transgender and gender expansive people from around the country." Cyrus announced the new campaign on the image-sharing platform today. "Over the next 2 weeks, you'll meet them and the people in their lives who support them, as we highlight their stories of resilience," she continued in her post. Leo Sheng, a transgender man who has been transitioning for a year and a half, kicked off the campaign. Like Cyrus, he recognizes the power in one using their voice. "I hope that my portrait can inspire those who have the ability to share their own stories to find their voices," he wrote. "If there's anything that the last few years have taught me, it's that living an unapologetic existence is the most freeing thing you can do." Hear, hear! Take a look at the first few #InstaPride posts, below.
