The ultimate summer accessory just might be this tiny portable speaker by Ultimate Ears. It puts out serious sound, can play music just about anywhere — even underwater — and is reasonably priced at $100.
The wireless speaker, called the UE Roll, connects to your phone via Bluetooth so you can stream tunes directly from your favorite music app. Its unique shape, kind of a bulbous disc that curves toward the middle and pinches to an edge at the perimeter, allows it to radiate room-filling 360-degree sound. Set the speaker on any surface, or to take it on the road, use the speaker's thick, built-in elastic loop to strap it to almost anything — your bike handlebars, an umbrella pole, or a backpack for example. Since it weighs just 12 ounces (it's about the size of your hand), you won't feel like you're lugging anything around.
And the best part? The Roll is also IPX7 waterproof, so you can leave your phone inside or safely tucked in your beach bag and carry the speaker with you to the water — without fear of damage. It even comes with a free inflatable floatie accessory so the speaker can float next to you in the pool.
If you or a friend also owns another UE product (like the cylindrical UE Boom, Mini Boom, or larger Megaboom), you can use the UE app so both speakers play the same audio, or act as complementary stereo speakers. The Roll comes in a range of colors as well as three Memphis design-inspired patterns. We're super psyched to tote this little speaker everywhere we go this summer. Hopefully our friends and neighbors appreciate our excellent music taste.
